Delete your Taly account
This page explains how to delete your Taly account and exactly what we remove versus retain when you do.
Quickest path: open Taly on your phone → Settings → Account → Delete account. The whole flow takes under a minute and includes a 7-day grace period where you can change your mind.
In-app deletion (recommended)
- Open the Taly app on your phone or tablet.
- Tap Settings in the bottom navigation.
- Scroll to the Account section.
- Tap Delete account.
- Optionally download a JSON backup of your data when prompted.
- Type
DELETE in the confirmation field, then re-enter your email address.
- Confirm the final warning.
Your account is now scheduled for permanent deletion in 7 days. If you change your mind, sign in again within that window and Taly will offer a one-click Restore my account button.
What gets deleted
- Your account credentials (email, password hash) in Supabase Auth.
- All of your financial data: transactions, accounts, categories, budgets, goals, debts, recurring bills, income entries, and category rules.
- Linked Plaid bank connections (we revoke our access tokens at Plaid immediately so no further transaction syncs occur).
- Connected Google Drive backup tokens.
- iCloud backup tokens (iOS only).
- Saved insights, recommendations, and notification preferences.
- Subscription records. Any active Stripe subscription is cancelled at the end of the current billing period (no further charges).
- Cached snapshots, demo data carriers, and any pending offline write queue entries.
What we keep (and why)
- Feedback you submitted — bug reports, feature requests, and "this confused me" notes. We retain the message text and submission date but remove the link to your user ID, so the content survives only in anonymized form. This is useful product-research signal even after you’re gone.
- Audit log of the deletion event itself — an internal record that captures the event ID, timestamp, and per-system success/failure status. This contains no personally identifiable information and is retained for legal compliance.
- Aggregated, anonymized usage statistics already accumulated before deletion. These have no per-user identifiers and cannot be traced back to you.
Retention timeline
| Step | When it happens |
| Deletion requested via in-app flow | Immediately on confirmation |
| Grace window (you can sign in to cancel) | 7 days |
| Plaid access tokens revoked | Immediately on request |
| Stripe subscription cancellation effective | End of current billing period |
| Hard delete of all owned data | Within 24 hours of grace window end |
| Feedback anonymization (user_id NULL'd) | Same time as hard delete |
| Supabase auth.users row removal | Same time, via admin API |
